The notoriety at East Bank High School around the use of drugs and other substance abuses and the high incidents of teenage pregnancies has attracted various change-makers who are determined to root out the social ills.
High on the list of the change-makers was the Gauteng Department of Social Development and its partners, who came to the school to address the problems together with learners and their parents and community members on October 27 with their Ke Moja without drugs programme.
Another change-maker that also jumped into the fray was Primestars with its behavioural change movie, What About the Boys? With so many incidents of teenage pregnancies in the school, some suspected to emanate from within the school, East Bank High boys and some from neighbouring KwaBhekilanga Secondary School were roped into the mentorship programme on their journey ‘from boys to good men’.
McDonald’s South Africa CEO Greg Solomon mentored them with an early morning chat before they watched the movie, which seeks to transform them into good men of the future.
