Suspected Springs butchery van hijackers meat their match in Alex

Metro police recovered five firearms, a toy gun, 111 rounds of live ammunition, magazines, blue lights, signal jammers and an elephant tusk and a hoard of meat at one of the suspects' house.

Two male suspects have been arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers for possession of stolen property, unlicensed firearms, and ammunition in Alexandra.

A statement from metro police said officers received information on August 29 regarding three trucks that were taken during an armed robbery in Springs in which meat products were stolen.

As the metro police were conducting patrols in Alexandra, they noticed men offloading meat from a bakkie into a butchery. The men are said to have attempted to flee the scene when the officers approached them, but the officers managed to corner them, and they were arrested.

The metro police statement said one of the suspects led the officers to his house in Alexandra where they recovered five firearms, a toy gun, 111 rounds of live ammunition, magazines, blue lights, signal jammers, and an elephant tusk including the meat that was reportedly stolen from the hijacked trucks.
