Alex youth empowered at ‘Pathway to Information’ event
Bertha Centre in partnership with Huruma Bantfu and other stakeholders connects the youth in Alexandra to information and opportunities related to employment, education and entrepreneurship.
In today’s fast-paced and interconnected world access to accurate and reliable information is crucial, especially for the younger generation.
Recognising this need, Bertha Centre in partnership with Huruma Bantfu, Ikamva Youth, Harambe Youth Employment Accelerator, Rhiza Babuyile, etc organised the event at Altrec Sport Complex. The aim is to equip youth with much-needed skills and resources to access the information they need.
“If you have access to information, it means you have access to opportunities. The opportunity will make you more sustainable in life.
“By supporting young people from Alexandra, I have an understanding that it will be us changing their trajectory in life. Alex has a lot of talent and so, optimising that talent and showing it a sustainable pathway towards a positive life, when it comes to income and self-development, is what support from us can lead to,” said the founder of Rhiza Babuyile, Alef Meulenberg.
“The reason we are here is to empower each of you guys, and ourselves as well, to create a future for South Africa that is better than we have now. And the only way we can do that is if we share information that will then allow us to be better than we are now. So, today what I will do is share templates around CV writing, and it is important that each one of you when you leave here you all know how to write, prepare and tell a story with your CV,” said co-founder of Huruma Bantfu, Sandile Tshabalala.
“What I learned today is that there is a lot of work that still has to be done on us as the youth in terms of expanding ourselves and getting into the working economy. There are a lot of skills that are still missing and doors that we still need to knock on. For instance, there is a lot of research that we need to do and introspection on our careers. A lot of things that we take for granted like volunteering can really help you in the long run, even if you are not going to be absorbed into the company,” said one of the attendees, Mokgabo Sewela.
