Mamelodi Sundowns wins big at 2023 PSL Awards

The DStv Premiership Top Goal Scorer of The Season was a joint affair between Cape Town City's Khanyo Mayo and Sundowns' Peter Shalulile on 12 points apiece.

DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns were the biggest victors at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards. The winners were announced over the weekend.

Five Masandawana players and their coach Rhulani Mokoena received top honours, with midfield maestro Teboho Mokoena scooping two prizes: the prestigious DStv Premiership Player of the Season and the Midfielder of the Season.

Coach Mokoena was crowned DStv Premiership Coach of the Season after he guided his side to an overwhelming victory in the league marathon in record time, with a record 70 points accumulated and 20 points ahead of their nearest rival Orlando Pirates.

The other Brazilians’ big winners on the weekend were young, up-and-coming goal poacher Cassius Mailula who scooped the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season award while Khuliso Mudau and Ronwen Williams won the DStv Premiership Defender and DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season awards respectively.

Former leading DStv Premiership Goalscorer of the Season for the 2021/22 season Peter Shalulile, was at it again, as he shared the current season’s award with Cape Town City’s prolific scorer Khanyo Mayo. They were tied at 12 goals.

Another big winner of the weekend was the slick Buccaneers forward Monnapule Saleng who grabbed the 2022/23 season’s DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and the converted MTN8 competition’s Last Man Standing Award.

Another of the Capetonian’s, The Citizens side’s Luphumlo Sifumba walked away with the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season award while Olwethu Makhanya and Iqraam Rayners, both of the Cape Winelands side, Stellenbosch FC, took home the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament awards respectively.
