A prominent taxi industry official was murdered in Alexandra.

David Moses Mitchell (57) who was the vice-chairperson of Lethlabile Taxi association was shot and killed on the evening of 9 March at corner of 11th Avenue and Alfred Nzo Street near his home. He was buried at Watervaal Cemetery in Midrand.

Family spokesperson Nthabiseng Chauke said Mitchell was rushed to Alex Clinic after the shooting and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mitchell grew up and was educated in Alexandra. He was actively involved in politics from the early 90s and was chairperson of Azayo. At the time of his death he was a branch organiser of the Socialist Party of Azania.

Police are investigating the case.
