Realogile learners in Alexandra are ‘deodorised’ for good future citizens
Midrand’s Glory House Church hopes to use the power of its ministry to build powerful and responsible future citizens and leaders of this country.
Eighty boy and girl learners from Realogile High School were ‘deodorised’ by the Glory House Church from Midrand in partnership with Brand South Africa and the Maimane Phiri Alex Development Foundation.
The learners, 30 boys and 50 girls, each received dignity packs which included toiletries such as deodorants, toothpaste and brushes, soaps, face cloths, lotions and sanitary pads for the girls, which should last them a month or so.
Glory House Church’s Pastor Njabulo Gova said they were aware the children may have to share items in the home with their other siblings, but that this would be an ongoing exercise of empowering the learners.
He said the church was looking at turning the donation exercise into an empowerment programme that could see mentors being drafted to come and work closely with the learners, not just on their school work, but also on career guidance and confidence building.
“This is just the start of bigger things to things to come for learners in Alexandra schools and other townships within the Gauteng province. We have just planted a seed with this programme and we want to nurture it to fruition.
“We have doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers and many other professions that we draw skills from to help mentor these learners into responsible future leaders that will contribute to the well-being of citizens and the development of the country,” Pastor Gova told Alex News in an interview.
Pastor Gova said some of the many problems that bedevil the country today were a result of the church having simply abdicated some of its roles and responsibilities of building harmonious communities that in turn lead to nations that live in peace with one another.
“It all starts within communities and then it spreads far and wide and this is a sod-turning event that should continue to grow and influence the way community members relate to one another and eventually citizens and nation at large.”
The pastor said the criteria used to identify beneficiaries was based on children that were performing well at school, that diligently do their school work and were always respectful to their peers and teachers alike.
Brand South Africa’s digital marketing manager Matalane Ngobeni said they were bringing the concept of ‘Play Your Part’ [which is a brand alignment of Brand SA] into the whole programme of building responsible and resilient youth that will form the core of future citizens and leaders of this country.
