Loftus Versfeld Stadium the venue for Nedbank Cup final

Loftus Versfeld Stadium is considered a cavernous venue with steep stands that provide one of the best atmospheres in football, with fans close to the action, allowing them to be an integral part of the spectacle.

All roads will lead to Tshwane on May 27 after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced that the 2022/23 Nedbank Cup final will be played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The final sees the Buccaneers taking on Sekhukhune United to claim a spot in the send tier of the Caf Champions League which is the Caf Confederation Cup after Orlando Pirates dispatched their archrivals Kaizer Chiefs in the bitter Soweto derby for a spot in the final.

Sekhukhune claimed their spot after booting out on-form Stellenbosch FC in a battle that was stretched through extra and right up to penalties and Sekhukhune triumphed 5-4 against a stubborn Stellies from the Cape Winelands.

The league’s acting CEO Mato Madlala said: “The Loftus Versfeld Stadium has a rich history in South African sports, and we are thrilled to host this season’s Nedbank Cup final at this world-class venue.

“The 16th edition of the Nedbank Cup has been filled with lots of entertainment and excitement for football spectators, and we expect much of the same for the remainder of the tournament.

“We have no doubt that together with our partners Nedbank, we will deliver a successful event. We would also like to thank the Gauteng Provincial Government for coming on board and providing logistical support for the hosting of this final.”

Khensani Nobanda, group executive of marketing and corporate affairs at Nedbank expressed her excitement that the cup final will be hosted in Pretoria. “The final has travelled throughout South Africa, Loftus Versfeld Stadium marks the 9th Fifa World Cup 2010 stadium that will host the final.
