Rays of Hope finally has a new leader

A new leader has arrived at Rays of Hope and he is looking forward to serving the community as Rays of Hope’s Chief Serving Officer

Rays of Hope, which is one of the foremost philanthropic organisations in Alexandra, with a massive footprint of community work, has finally found a new CEO to replace Sihle Mooi.

Mooi left the organisation a little more than a year ago and Muziwethu Zwane has stepped in to fill the big shoes left by Mooi. Zwane announced his arrival and introduced himself in a newsletter to stakeholders in which he described himself as the new man at the helm of the organisation.

“It is with a tremendous sense of gratitude that I write to you, friend, as the new chief ‘serving’ officer at Rays of Hope. It’s an organisation that has made a huge impact on the Alexandra community (the very community I was raised in) over its 32 years of existence. I take my role and responsibilities and the part I have to play in continuing

and growing the organisation’s success, very seriously,” he said.
Zwane said in no other role of his career has he felt such a level of responsibility, pride and honour. “Having run my own management consulting and training firm, I can say with certainty that leading an organisation like Rays of Hope is vastly different from the corporate realm.

“The focus is no longer on the bottom line but rather on the impact on lives. This means I can only judge how effective I am as a leader by the growth and development of, and the eventual impact made by, the people I lead,” Zwane said.

He said his arrival coincides with Rays of Hope embracing a new strategic direction that looks holistically at each child from a learning and development, family care, and social services related perspective.

“It’s a more proactive way to circumvent and address issues that plague the community – poverty, gender-based violence, teen pregnancy, child-led households and more – by putting programmes in place that help children become more well-rounded human beings,” he added.

Zwane described Rays of Hope initiatives and interventions as incredibly valuable in Alex. His goal as a leader is to ensure that the organisation continues to give its all in fostering a culture of trust, caring, diversity of thought and valuing people and those that serve the organisation, and the community of Alexandra.
