Giant killers Dondol Stars look forward to the next chapter of the Nedbank Cup

Alex co-coach of Dondol Stars Vincent 'Young Master' Rammoni says his team looks forward to the quarterfinal draw of the Nedbank Cup on March 13.

Giant killers Dondol Stars will know who they’ll be facing in the next round of the Nedbank cup when the quarterfinal draw is held on March 13 at SuperSport Studio 6.

The Mamelodi-based side, which is co-coached by Alex’s master tacticians Vincent ‘Young Master’ Rammoni and Khuliso Rashamuse, started its amazing giant-killing act in the last round of the competition that is famously known as the ‘David versus Goliath’ Cup.

In that round, they bundled out DStv Premiership side SuperSport United, which is coached by veteran coach and multi-trophy-winning tactician Gavin Hunt. SuperSport was outplayed by two goals to one at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on February 8.

Then they went on to thrash Usuthu warriors, AmaZulu FC 5-4 on penalties after the two sides were deadlocked 1-1 after ninety minutes and extra time.

This paved the way for Dondol to cruise to the quarterfinals of the competition after AmaZulu messed up one of their penalties. This allowed the amateurs to bang all their spot kicks at FNB Stadium on March 8.

Asked about his winning formula, the cagey but humble Alex coach did not want to let the cat out of the bag but suffice it to say it was the hard work he and his colleague do every day in training and the ability of the boys to play their game well and implement the coaching staff’s instructions.

“It was a tough game, even tougher than that of SuperSport United as we went into the referee’s optional time, then extra time, and ultimately penalties, still tied at 1-1. It was a physically, mentally and tactically draining game but we were ready and endured and managed the ball very well, and that finally paid off,” Rammoni said.

“We are so excited about the victory but we still remain humble and will respect whichever opponent we get. The next round of the cup will get our best shot again in the hope of coming out with a good result once again,” said the Young Master.
