Boy goes on rampage

ALEXANDRA - A 16-year-old boy ran berserk and smashed windows and doors to his family home and sent his siblings scurrying for cover.

A 16-year-old boy ran berserk and smashed windows and doors of his family home, sending his siblings scurrying for cover.

A Far Eastbank woman said she received a call from her neighbour who said her eldest son was running amok and smashing windows, doors and burglar bars in the house. The mother rushed to the scene and found her two younger children hiding behind the door of the bathroom. Her son had left.

“We were so scared we did not know what to do and we ran and hid behind the bathroom door,” they allegedly told her.

The mother said she suspected her eldest son of taking taking drugs and must have been ‘high’ at the time. The mother went to the police and opened a case of malicious damage to property against her son.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the police were hot on the heels of the boy, who is suspected to have sought refuge with friends or other relatives.
