Dr Knak learners in Alex honoured for a ‘job well done’

Dr Knak Primary School honoured its more than 300 learners in the senior phase of their primary education with awards for academic and sporting excellence.

More than 300 learners from Dr Knak Primary School in Alexandra received academic and sports awards to honour them for a year-long ‘job well done’.

School deputy principal Cyril Mamabolo, in his opening remarks before the awards, told a large contingent of parents who came to witness the awards that from these children gathered here will become doctors, engineers, scientists, soccer stars, presidents and other leaders in many other professions.

“I implore you as parents to always support your children in their academic quest and participation in whatever sport code they choose. We are today saying thank you to the learners for a job well done in the academic space and in the sports fields.

“It’s only through such support that we can produce the engineers we desperately need and the future leaders that will take this country of ours forward.

“Your support in their formative years plays a crucial role and you should never underestimate it. It builds them to become the professionals and future leaders that you desire them to be,” Mamabolo said.

More than 300 learners were honoured for bagging gold, silver and bronze awards in the various subjects they do at school in the senior phase of their primary education which begins at Grade 4.

Other learners also received awards for sports excellence, and this included a squad from Alexandra that was invited to participate in the Bill Stewart Tournament which is run by the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association.

Two players from Dr Knak in the Alex squad, Mpho Makola and Christinah Sebati, were chosen to join the team that played in the Discovery Camp Tournament in Hammanskraal in June, and Mpho and Christinah’s select side won the tournament and hence the two players were among the learners honoured for sports participation.
