Top Alex referee for Fifa 2022 Qatar World Cup
Alexandra and Premier Soccer League top referee Zakhele Siwela will join his world peers in football as one of the whistle men and women of the Fifa 2022 Qatar World Cup, along with two of his other countrymen.
Alexandra’s own top whistle man Zakhele Siwela continues to make waves in the top echelons of football refereeing.
This is after he was picked as one of three match officials from South Africa that will be heading for the Fifa 2022 Qatar World- Cup which begins on November 20.
Though not sure as yet which match Siwela will feature in, the first of the world football spectacle that comes around every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, is set to kick off with the home side, Qatar, up against Ecuador at 18:00 Central African time.
This is the third if not the fourth time that Siwela has been called to duty in the World Cup and other African tournaments such as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) tournaments as he was also called to Russia 2018.
Welcoming the inclusion of Siwela, and another top Premier Soccer League whistle man Victor Gomes and South African Football Association (SAFA) chief medical officer Dr Thulani Ngwenya, the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture said it was elated to learn of the inclusion of the trio into match officials of the Qatar spectacle.
“This call up of the trio resonates quite clearly with the kind of calibre and performance of the trio and also with South Africa as being one of the top sporting countries in the world,” said Departmental spokesperson Lisa Combrinck.
