Midrand and Alexandra magistrate’s courts make 38 convictions

38 suspects have been convicted of various crimes by both courts.

Midrand police made 38 arrests in October and the suspects appeared in the Midrand and Alexandra magistrate’s courts.

Thirty-four illegal immigrants were convicted for contravening the immigration act and Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said the convictions would send a strong message to those who were in the country illegally to obtain valid documents.

“We will continue on a daily basis to execute our mandate by protecting the interest of the country by arresting those who are not documented.”

Two motorists were also convicted, one for driving recklessly and the other for culpable homicide after being involved in an accident that resulted in a pedestrian’s death.

Two suspects were convicted of dealing in dagga.
“Although the use of dagga is been legalised, we urge everyone to consider the limitation such as possession and usage of it in public spaces. Dealing is completely prohibited and requires one to be licensed. Any person found in possession and dealing will be arrested.”
He urged the youth to refrain from dealing drugs because a criminal record would limit their chances of employment.
