ANC Zone 13 leadership yearns for the return of the ARP to Alex

ANC Zone 13 leadership is yearning for the return of the ARP to Alexandra but in a different format to complete the task it was mandated to do in the township.

The ANC Zone 13 leadership has gone into a two-day Zonal Lekgotla meeting to draft a strategic working document that will guide the zone on its programme of action going forward.

Speaking to Alex News, zonal chairperson Kenneth Mgaga said the executive Lekgotla will start on October 24 to 25 and will tackle a number of service delivery issues and developmental aspects, especially in Alexandra which is the core area of the zone which cries out for enormous attention.

Among the issues for deliberation will be the ‘hot potato’ issue of the return of the Alexandra Renewal Project but in a different format that is free of the ‘cash cow’ mentality.

“We want the ARP to return and complete the work it was mandated to do but we don’t want the cash cow and hyena mentality that characterised its predecessor.

“We delighted the ANC has returned to the helm of the City of Johannesburg and now they can get things moving in the direction that we want for the betterment of the lives of the zonal residents and particularly Alexandra that cries out the loudest for attention and upliftment,” Mgaga said.

“We want the ARP to return along with the resuscitation of the developmental stricture of the Greater Development Forum [Gadf] which should be apolitical and encompass all residents of the township regardless of their political party affiliation,” Mgaga added.

He said the new ARP-Gadf structures must include all stakeholders and political formations and civic bodies to ensure maximum participation and inclusivity so that no one cries foul and claim they were left out in the cold.

Zone 13 includes areas such as Rembrandt Park, Glenhazel, Edenvale, Klipfontein, Mayibuye, Woodmead, Kelvin and Buccleuch.
