My Midas touch boy mowed down in his prime, grieves Alex father and actor Sipho Masebe

Alex father, seasoned actor and businessman Sipho Masebe struggles to comprehend that his son, Thando Khumalo, is no more and keeps hoping he would one day walk in at the front door of the house.

Renowned Alex actor and businessman Sipho Masebe has described the agony and pain of losing a son who, in his short life, had displayed such amazing potential with a Midas touch.

Masebe was speaking in an interview with Alex News following what he described as a despicable and cruel ‘mowing down’ of his son, Thando Khumalo, during a road-rage incident on the morning of August 28 at 06:30 at the corner of 12th Avenue and Hofmeyer Street on Alexandra.

The late Thando Khumalo, a Sandtonview High School learner, was shot dead in a road-rage incident on August 28.

Thando and five of his friends were returning home from an overnight entertainment sojourn when he met his untimely death at the hands of a man that Masebe described as ‘having a propensity to kill other human beings’ following an altercation over a traffic driving incident.

Alex News attended the accused’s appearance in the Alexandra Regional Court on September 14 where he was denied bail and remanded in custody to appear again in court on September 28.

The accused is said to be a parolee – with yet another murder case hanging over his head and according to Masebe, he is a well-known personality in the township’s social circle.

Following an exchange of words after the traffic incident, the boys are said to have realised the suspect was armed and jumped out of the car they were driving and took flight.

Masebe described Thando, who is actually his late sister’s son that he adopted along with elder brother Siyabonga Khumalo as per his sister Lindiwe Nkwanyana’s death wish in 2006, as a business-minded Grade 11 learner at Sandtonview High School who ran thriving dog food and sneaker-cleaning businesses and was doing so well at school too.

“Thando was such a humble boy who had his whole life before him, both at school with his studies and the business inclination he had. If he was at home and not conducting his business, Thando was hard at work at his books.

“He had the Midas touch and everything he touched turned to gold, and as the saying goes, too much work makes Jack a dull boy. He only occasionally found time to go out with his friends and one such trip was when he met his death.
