Mamelodi Sundowns begin defence of the MTN8 title with a Tshwane derby against SuperSport United

The MTN8 is up for grabs but only time will tell whether the Brazilians, as Mamelodi Sundowns are fondly known, will be able to mount a successful defence of their most elusive trophy to date in the history of the Premier Soccer League.

Mamelodi Sundowns will begin the defence of what used to be their most elusive trophy, the MTN8, with a tricky quarter-final Tshwane derby against SuperSport United at the Tuks Stadium on August 28.

This follows confirmation of the fixture details for the MTN8 and time and venues by the Premier Soccer League, a competition which involves the top eight teams on the championship of the DStv Premiership for the past season.
The opener for the MTN8 quarter-finals will be played on August 27 with a clash between Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC at the Athlone Stadium, with kick-off set for 15:00. Later in the evening on the same day at 18:00, Royal AM will take on Orlando Pirates at Chatsworth Stadium.

The following day, Stellenbosch FC will entertain AmaKhosi, Kaizer Chiefs, at the Danie Craven Stadium in the early kick-off at 15:00 and then the Tshwane derby closes the proceedings of the quarter-finals.
Only time will tell whether Masandawana, as Sundowns is popularly known to its loyal fans, will successfully defend their trophy which they have only won once since its inception in 2008 as the MTN8 after taking over from the BP Top 8.

The Sea Robbers, as Orlando Pirates is best known to its fans, have won the MTN8 the most, bagging three trophies to their name while their Soweto archrivals AmaKhosi have won it twice, along with Matsatsantsa A Pitori.
