Tshimologo Development Centre finally appoints new SGBs after turbulent times

One of Alex's oldest crèches is back on the revival road after experiencing turmoil due to squabbles within members of the School Governing Body that were threatening its very existence.

The Tshimologo Development Centre is back up and running again after the appointment of seven new School Governing Body (SGB) members on August 7.

This follows more than a year of squabbles among the members that were threatening the very existence of the crèche.

The revival of the crèche and its return to normality came through the help of Boitumelong Early Learning Centre principal Nokulunga Ncube.

“I was approached by parents and teachers of the crèche as they feared the in-fighting among management members was getting out of hand and might ultimately lead to the downfall of the centre.

“As a member of the Southern Areas Forum, we are duty bound to assist in uplifting other schools that are lagging in compliance and those who would like to start ECDs and the observance of protocols and regulations… things were obviously falling apart at the centre since the passing of the founder the previous year and I could not just watch it being destroyed by internal squabbles which we could easily assist to rectify and get the centre back on track again,” Ncube said.

She said the government had asked the members of the centre to sort out their differences. “I had to step in for the sake of the children and to save a structure that is one of the oldest in the township and forms part of the history of Alexandra.

“After all the fights and quarrels, we finally managed to have our first annual general meeting where we got our full year report, financial report and the appointment of new SGBs. We also managed to advertise for the position of principal.

“I am happy to announce that things are now looking good as most of the thorny issues have been resolved and peace and stability seem to have returned to the centre and we can all look forward to exciting times ahead.”

Alex resident and parent of a child at the centre Monicaah Nkoane who was appointed to the SGB said, “For me, finding each other like this is a big deal as I am fond and passionate about all things children and as a member of the community, I would love to see this centre return to its former glory after almost collapsing due to in-fighting.”
