The Alex community is saddened by the passing of Joshua Mbatha(32) famously known as DJ Josh at Alex FM, who was shot dead on July 14 at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Selborne Street, Alexandra.
Alex FM’s chairperson Isaac Mangena confirmed the sad news on social media.
“He[ Mbatha] was on his way with two of his colleagues Sammy Ramodike and Matome Mookanedi, when they were stopped by about three gunmen at 7th Selbourne. They took their phones and shoes before shooting him in the chest,” said Mangena.
“He succumbed to his injuries at Masakhane clinic around 21:00… May his soul rest in peace. A promising career has gone too soon.”
Funeral and memorial service details will be announced after consultation with the family.
Alexandra Police Station has not given a comment at this stage.
