Vehicles that had been hijacked were recovered during an Okae Molao operation in Alex on May 26.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela headed the interdisciplinary operation with senior management from SAPS and other law enforcement agencies on the notorious London Road.
“The current problems faced in Alexandra are hijacking, dealing of drugs, and substance abuse, so today we are here to strengthen the army of the station commander, together with the district commissioner Major General Max Masha,” said Mawela.
“Here in Alex in this operation already, three previously hijacked vehicles got recovered, and one that is suspected to be stolen was recovered. We also arrested a person who was driving a positively hijacked vehicle here in Alex and is now taken into custody.
“Three people have been arrested for dealing in dagga, and 82 undocumented persons have been caught.”
In other operations he said detectives also did a sterling job and arrested about 939 wanted suspects in Gauteng, 324 of whom were in Johannesburg.
Alexandra Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela said they were working tirelessly to root out taverns operating without liquor licenses, as well as people with illegal firearms and drug dealers.
