Brighter days beckon for Alex football

The complete change of guard is a sure sign of brighter days to come, says Matholengwe.

The ascendency of Joe Seanego to the helm of Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (LFA) has been hailed as a new beginning for township football.

Tiger Matholengwe, the founder of Royal Tigers SC, said he believed the change of guard in township football was a good omen which signals that a breath of fresh air was upon the game in our local football association’.

Speaking to Alex News, Matholengwe, who was barely 20 years old when he formed the club in 2014 and was denied the opportunity to head it by the then administration of the LFA because of his young age, claimed the damage done over the years (by the previous administration) could never be redone over a couple of days or months.

“The complete change of guard is a sure sign of brighter days to come. Clubs have decided to entrust Joe to run the affairs of football and we are fully behind him and his ambitions, along with his new executive, to turn the township game for the better.

“We will, however, interrogate the processes to be put in place to reform our football in Alex and will only support it if it’s going to be conducive to our growth and development as a footballing community,” Matholengwe said.

“We are no longer fighting, we are now building our football and the hard work has just begun to lure back sponsors and partnerships into the game. We look forward to the return of various tournaments and our highly competitive leagues.
“We hope they [new executive] will lead us with dignity, honesty and transparency, and that we, as clubs, will play our part to hold them accountable for every action taken and cent spent.”

LFA secretary-general Malvin Khumalo said the new executive was still assessing the effects of the past four years and consulting with various stakeholders such as clubs, the City of Johannesburg, and the Northrand stream to chart a collective way forward.

“We are also dealing with complaints from certain parties that are not satisfied with the election outcomes. Our first two months in office will also be dedicated to creating a conducive environment for football to thrive and also to putting administrative systems and structures in place to address competitions, women’s football development, fundraising, and legal and compliance matters.
“We are weathering heavy storms with confidence that the price is achievable. The intent is the key – to collectively grow Alex football,” Khumalo said.
