Dudula 6 granted bail by Alex court

ALEXANDRA – We are happy to have them back and all the credit for their freedom goes to the legal minds we brought all the way from Bloemfontein, says Malatjie.

Six members of the Alexandra Dudula Movement that fought running battles with the police and foreign national hawkers at the Pan Africa Square were today granted bail of R1 000 each by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.

The members of the Dudula and #OperationFiyela were arrested on March 8 at the Pan Africa trading square, following heated clashes between Dudula members and foreign hawkers and the law-enforcement agencies.

They first appeared in court on March 10 and the accused were remanded in custody to appear to March 17 for a bail application. On March 17, the six men were further remanded in custody to appear again for their bail application on March 23.

Today (March 23), their legal representatives who came all the way from Bloemfontein in the Free State province, fought for their bail to be reduced from an initial amount of R3 000 each to R1 000 each.

In an interview with Alex News, Dudula and #OperationFiyela leader Agnes Malatjie said Dudula and its followers were quite happy to have them back in their midst after three weeks of incarceration. “All the credit for their freedom goes to the legal minds we brought all the way from Bloemfontein to attend to the case.”
