Illegal evictions land woman and child in hospital

ALEX – No one has been arrested in both cases but the police are investigating. 

A 20-year-old woman and a child were caught in the middle of illegal evictions on March 9 in Ext 7, Alexandra at about 19:30.

According to Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, police attended a scene of an attempted murder related to the illegal evictions where they found the injured woman and child.

“The woman and the eight-year-old were shot in their left legs. They were both taken to a nearby hospital for urgent care. The child has been released while the woman remains admitted,” said Mbatha.

In an unrelated case, police attended another attempted murder case on March 7. The incident happened at about 18:10 in 10th Avenue, Alexandra. Mbatha said the complainant claimed he was at his home when he was called by his neighbour.

“His neighbour informed him that his [neighbour’s] 17-year-old nephew had been shot in the thigh by an unknown man. The injured nephew was taken to a nearby hospital for urgent care.”

No one has been arrested in both cases but the police are investigating.
