Passengers rob e-hailing driver before driving off with his car

FAR EAST BANK – One of the men at the back grabbed him from the back just as they arrived at Far East Bank.

A complainant who is a driver of one of the e-hailing companies was robbed in Far East Bank after three men who had requested to be taken to Alex from Woodmead turned on him.

According to Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the spokesperson of the Alexandra Police Station, the complainant received a request from Woodmead to Alexandra, Far East Bank on March 8 at about 11:00.

“When he arrived for the pick-up, three men entered the vehicle. According to the victim, one was sitting in the front seat and the other two were behind him. One of the men at the back grabbed him from behind just as they arrived at Far East Bank,” said Mbatha. 

Mbatha said the man holding the driver ordered him to stop the vehicle. The other two men took out firearms and pointed them at him. They proceeded to search him, took his cellphone and money before driving off in his car, a white Renault Sandero Stepway.

The vehicle was later recovered. No one has been arrested and no one was injured.
