Rotarians give a helping hand

ALEXANDRA - The Johannesburg Main Reef Rotary is to give a helping hand in Alexandra.

The Johannesburg Main Reef Rotary is one that will be making a meaningful contribution to address this challenge. Rotary member, Sussane Govender Nell said the Rotarians would conduct Family Health Days from 2 to 4 April at a venue to be announced closer to the dates.

The event will also be conducted in other areas in the country. “Through a partnership with the provincial department of health, six Rotarians participate in providing a range of services to the community including HIV counselling and testing, distribute of condoms, testing for hypertension, diabetes, administer de-worming, polio drops and distribute sanitary pads,” she said. “Where necessary, the department will make referrals to local clinics and hospitals to ensure completion of required services.”

The Rotary is inviting other stakeholders to participate in the event which they intend to conduct every year. They are hoping to partner with CBOs, NGOs, the community policing forum, spaza shops, taverns and taxi operators to spread the message about the event and also to distribute condoms, pamphlets and posters to notify the public of the event.
