Man lands in ICU after hijacking in Alex

ALEX – The vehicle has not been recovered and the complainant was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition.

A hijacking left a man with a gunshot wound to his stomach after the passengers in his car robbed and almost killed him on February 3.

According to the spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the complainant said he was driving along Phil Machitele and corner Ricardo streets in Alexandra at about 20:15 when the two passengers he had in his car pointed a firearm at him.

“The complainant stopped the car and ran on foot with his car keys. The suspects then shot him in his stomach and took the keys from him before leaving with his car. The suspects also took his cellphone which is worth R1 600. The vehicle is worth R70  000.”

Mbatha said the vehicle had not been recovered and the complainant was taken to a nearby hospital where he was in critical condition.
