People’s Choice uniform drive a success

ALEXANDRA -– I would like to say to the donors our long journey has only just begun, says Galedzana.

Alex community worker Nkele Galedzana has heaped praise on Alex News for the role played by the publication in the dissemination of information around her inaugural charity drive.

Known as the People’s Choice Uniform Christmas Drive that is set to become her annual charity event, Galedzana told Alex News she was overwhelmed by the warm response she had received from the Alex community and the business community outside the township.

“I am particularly gratified by the role played by Alex News in the launch of this event which will now become part of the annual calendar of my community work. I must also pay tribute to other media houses such as Alex FM community radio station and 702 Talk Radio for coming to the party as well,” Galedzana said.

Galedzana, who has played various community-building roles, especially after the recent looting spree in Gauteng, said she had hoped to raise about 500 uniform packs which included pants, skirts, socks and black school shoes.

She said the short planning period had curtailed the number of items raised and she was 300 items below target which she said was not bad for a start. “I would like to express my gratitude to the Alex community, JCI in Sandton, The Glen Montessori, Titan Properties and my own contribution as well to the kitty,” she added.

“All these institutions played a crucial role and I find myself being nothing but emotional and at the same time thankful to them for every cent donated.

“This is only the start and many more programmes will be conducted under the People’s Choice brand. I would like to say to the donors our long journey has only just begun, more lives will be changed as we partner for many other programmes to come.”
