Tough game for middle of the log teams

ALEXANDRA - It was a tough game to crack for the two middle of the log teams, FC Godisanang and Randburg Football Club.

Alexandra’s Godisanang was the home team at the Alexandra Stadium in a match that ended in a goalless draw in the South African Breweries League.

“They can go and play for the coming two days and possibly still end in a goalless draw,” was how Randburg coach, Thembinkosi Biyela summed up the game.

“It was a tough and highly tactical game for both sides. My boys played well, notwithstanding the fact that the team is composed of youngsters, with one of them, Rayn Naidoo, barely 15 years old. I am happy that they held their own ground in an away game and managed to grab a point from it.”

Biyela, a former Kaizer Chief striker said a point away from home was just as good as a win. He added that the bad pitch contributed to the goalless draw as the players could not play their normal football.

“I have a young team of talented players and as they mature into the game, I am sure they will gel into a formidable machine. I just need to work hard on their finishing so I can ensure they bury most of the chances we create.”

His counterpart at Godisanang, Aby Mofomme conceded that the game was a tough one. “I reminded them in the dressing room that we are the home team and should throw caution away and go all the way for a win,” he said. “That meant they should take risks but make sure they defend well.”

This approach almost paid dividends when Godisanang almost scored in the 75th minute when the Randburg keeper parried the ball over the crossbar for a corner from a well-taken free kick. Other than this, chances for both sides were few and far between.

Randburg came close to scoring twice in the dying minutes, but were denied by an alert Godisanang keeper, Sidingo Nxumalo. Godisanang currently lie seventh in the log while Randburg are eighth.
