Angof seeks to strike Afrika Tikkun partnership

ALEXANDRA – Angof wants a deal with Tikkun that will give our members tools to fish for themselves as opposed to being offered fish all the time, says secretary-general Floretinah Luruli.

The newly formed Alexandra Non-Governmental Organisations’ Foundation (Angof) is on the verge of striking what it believes will be a ‘strategically powerful’ partnership with Afrika Tikkun.

Angof believes this partnership with one of the country’s leading charity institutions rooted in the Western Cape and Johannesburg, with a particularly huge footprint in Alexandra, will play a major role in taking its selfless work to yet another level.

Secretary-general Florentinah Luruli said they met with Tikkun founder Marc Lubner to get to know what they do as they explore a possible partnership that could see Angof incorporated into the Tikkun programme.

She said a series of meetings have been taking place since their first encounter in August that are set to lead to the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement that may ultimately pave the way for a working relationship between the two organisations.

Luruli said a workshop was held recently where both organisations unpacked their plans and programmes to enable both sides to see where they can fit in and which of the parties’ programmes can mutually benefit from the partnership.

In accordance with the founding vision of the organisation, Luruli said Angof was not going into the relationship to suck up money from Afrika Tikkun, which was also clearly spelt out by Lubner, but ‘we are in it to empower our members with the necessary tools to fish for themselves.

“We’re not going into the marriage with a begging bowl but we have a clear mandate that seeks to teach our varied organisations how to fish as opposed to being offered fish all the time.”

Currently, Angof has more than 200 members with 10 committees and six more in the offing, and is also working on the establishment of a multimedia support website with the help of Khulisa Social Solutions, one of Angof’s key strategic partners.

Luruli pointed out that the partnership portfolios given to Khulisa will not form part of the package that will be handed over to Afrika Tikkun.
