Independent candidates make history in Alex

ALEXANDRA -– If the two win their respective wards, they will further entrench themselves in the history books.

For the first time in the history of a democratic South Africa, Alexandra will have independent candidates contesting the November 1 Local Government Elections.

Two independent candidates have entered the election fray, one in Ward 81 who has no known previous connection or links to any party, while the other in Ward 75 is a disgruntled member of the ANC who claimed to have been ‘outmanoeuvered’ during the party’s final candidacy selection process.

Youthful community builder and worker, Nkele Galedzana (26) has already made history by becoming the first independent candidate and youthful woman to stand in a pre-dominantly ANC township. Theophilus Kgotso Lengwati is standing in Ward 81, which is currently a DA controlled ward.
