SAPS, SANDF, and members of the CPF work together to recover looted items

ALEXANDRA – There were several arrests, including those who looted and those who bought stolen goods.

Alexandra CPF, SAPS, the South African Defence Force and the community are undertaking a day-and-night operation to recover items that were taken during the recent looting.

There were several arrests of people who had looted and those who had bought stolen goods.

Chairman of Alexandra CPF Chris Mabunda said the majority of their successful raids were the result of tip-offs from the community. “Nearby neighbours are reporting on each other, and the police and soldiers have promised to work hard to recover as many stolen goods as possible.”

He added that the recovered stolen goods were taken back to the police stations. “We recovered many stolen goods that do not fit in a single police storeroom and stored them in different police stations such as Alex, Bramley and Sandton.”

Mabunda said recovered stolen food that was still edible was donated to the less privileged.

Simphiwe Mbatha, Alexandra police spokesperson, praised community members for tipping off the police through the MySAPS app and other means.
