Let us help rebuild Alex and Diepsloot businesses affected by looting

JOBURG NORTH – We're calling on Alex and Diepsloot businesses to share stories of how they've been impacted as well as their needs and giving them a chance to promote themselves in a free online advertorial.

As unrest swept across Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal last week, many businesses in Joburg’s northern suburbs were severely impacted.

Our journalists have captured how shopping meccas and warehouses in Alexandra and Diepsloot – which are usually hubs of economic activity – have been looted, destroyed and burnt. Our Alex News journalist witnessed how even when there was nothing left in the stores, looters continued to steal the lightbulbs from a shopping centre.

Many stores and malls throughout the northern suburbs were closed and evacuated as a safety precaution over the past few days. It has been utterly devastating to report on.

Yet we have seen the triumphant spirit of the community rise amid the chaos, as volunteers have taken to the streets of Alexandra to start cleaning up the mess. Readers have turned to our publications’ social media pages to ask how they can help.

Never one to sit back and watch our communities suffer, Caxton Local Media’s Joburg North branch has stepped up to help all businesses – big and small – in Alexandra and Diepsloot which have been affected by the looting and unrest.

We are calling on Alex and Diepsloot businesses to share their stories of how they have been impacted as well as their needs, and we’re giving them a chance to promote themselves – if they are still able to operate – in a free online advertorial.

All the affected businesses have to do is email our group editor, Daniella Graham, on daniellap@caxton.co.za.

This is our small way to lend a helping hand in our communities under the banner of Caxton Cares.
