Appeals for equipment to rebuild Alex FM

ALEXANDRA – Alex FM has started the process of rebuilding the vandalised and looted community radio station.

The board of the Alex FM community radio station in Alexandra has appealed for donations of broadcast equipment as it embarks on a coordinated effort to rebuild the station that fell victim to the ongoing state of lawlessness and looting, gripping Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

Board chairperson Isaac Mangena said the board and management of the station ‘are making an appeal to request donations, sponsorships, pledges and contributions from people of all walks of life and partners of the station and organisations to come forward and help us rebuild this community asset’.

Mangena said the community of Alexandra was left devastated after the news of the vandalisation and looting of broadcast equipment and related items at the station broke on July 13. “Since the news broke, the station has received numerous messages of support from people of all walks of life and different sectors of society and organisations alike.

“The board and management are sincerely thankful to those who have already jumped in to assist and made pledges and donations to rebuild the station. We wish to express our gratitude as there is still a lot that needs to be done to #RebuildAlexFM.”
