Bar set high at Alexandra High School

ALEXANDRA - Alexandra High School, which achieved an 88% matric pass in 2013, hopes to achieve better results this year.

Alexandra High School has set the bar high after achieving an 88 percent matric pass last year.

The school, which was in last place in Alex in 2012, had the second best results in the township. According to school principal Zoleka Lebelo the aim is to do even better this year.

“My vision is to make sure that every pupil in Grade 12 passes so that they can improve their lives and the lives of the community, society and the nation,” she said. “So if we can just achieve a 100 percent pass we can improve the community,” she said.

Lebelo believed that the results were due to a collective effort by everyone at the school.

She said they managed to identify some challenges and found strategies to fix them. “It was difficult but through a collective effort, commitment and dedication from all stakeholders we managed. We are proud of making such a big difference in the community because at the end of the day, the differences and the good things we are doing for the school are also benefiting the community,” she said, adding that they want to increase the results this year.

Lebelo identified one of the challenges the school faced was parents not attending meetings and encouraged them to be more active. “If we can improve on those [challenges] we are going to achieve more. We are calling for parental involvement to be 100 percent.”
