Playing with danger

Safety measures will be considered to stop children from playing on the sewerage pipe that crosses the Jukskei River in the Westbank area of Alexandra.

After the issue was raised in the article, Dicing with Death, week ending 20 December, councillor Joyce Ngwenya agreed to look into the matter.

The councillor said she was previously unaware that children were endangering their lives by playing on the pipe. Residents were concerned that the children could slip and fall onto the rocks below.

“I will however report the matter to the patrollers and inform them to just patrol the area and keep them [children] out,” she said.
