UPDATE: Sergeant Moshela Mokgobo’s alleged killer hands himself in

ALEXANDRA – The 52-year-old suspect sensed the net was closing in on him forcing him to hand himself over to police.

The suspect who is alleged to have shot and killed Alexandra police officer Sergeant Moshela Mokgobo on 23 March handed himself in on the afternoon of 24 March at Johannesburg Police Station.
 
The management of the South African Police Service has welcomed his arrest and stated, “It was reported that the sergeant and colleagues were following a suspicious vehicle when the vehicle in question got stuck in traffic on 3rd Street near Pan African Mall. Sergeant Mokgobo and a colleague approached the said vehicle on foot when shots were fired at them by the occupant. The sergeant was shot and he immediately succumbed to his injuries.”
 
 
The province immediately initiated the 72-hour activation plan which entailed the mobilisation of all the necessary resources needed to investigate the incident.
 
“The 52-year-old suspect sensed the net was closing in on him forcing him to hand himself over to police. He will appear in court soon on charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a municipal area,” read the statement released by SAPS.
