Socca Dream’s dreams of playing in SAB League

BALFOUR – In South Africa, an 18-year-old is considered too young while in Europe an 18-year-old is already winning trophies in the World Cup.

Football talent identification NPO Socca Dream has dreams of playing in the SAB League and hence it is in talks with the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association with the aim of affiliating its soccer club, Socca Dream FC to the association.

Socca Dream’s Sduduzo Masuku told Alex News they hoped that the affiliation would enable them to acquire the status of one of the SAB League teams that want out.

Masuku said the team had already chosen Sandringham as its home base and was gearing up for the start of the season. “We’re just keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan as we can’t wait to possibly acquire one of the statuses of the teams that want to quit the league,” Masuku added.

He said they were also in the process of forming a girls’ team that would eventually be a feeder to Croesus Ladies. “That work is underway as we speak and we hope to finalise it soon. We’re currently scouting the talent to put together a talented side that will stand its own ground.”

He said women’s football was on the rise. “We want to take advantage of that tide and establish ourselves too. The girls’ team will be known as Socca Dream Ladies,” adding that a soccer academy would also follow where skills of the players of the boys’ and girls’ sections would be honed.

“We want to start building both teams while they are young, 18 years and down. Here in South Africa, an 18-year-old is considered too young while in Europe an 18-year-old is already winning trophies in the World Cup. This is what we want to do, help them to start winning trophies at an early age.”
