‘New kid in town’ ActionSA catches Alex’s big fish

ALEXANDRA -– The ‘new kid in town’ ActionSA catches the big fish in Alex as the DA’s Shadrack Mkhonto quits the party.

The new kid on the block ActionSA party’s fishing expedition in the Jukskei River in Alexandra has yielded the biggest ever dividend.

The party of former Johannesburg executive mayor Herman Mashaba has caught its biggest fish in the Jukskei River – that being the hard-working and long-serving servant of the Democratic Alliance in township – former Ward 105 PR councillor Shadrack Mkhonto.

When the news of his impending departure made headlines on www.alexnews.co.za on 2 March, his former party is understood to have been infuriated at his decision and demanded that he hand in his resignation immediately or face expulsion.

Mkhonto told Alex News he was left with no option but to abruptly hand in his resignation to a party he had joined in March 2000 after quitting the ANC over the forced relocation to Braamfischerville and Diepsloot of people that were living on the banks of the perennially flooding Jukskei River.

Working along with then DA councillor for Ward 105 Alan Fuchs, Mkhonto won a court battle that forced the City of Johannesburg to rescind its forced relocation of the residents of the banks of the Jukskei River, and this earned him huge respect as an ANC member and this rise in popularity forced him to throw his weight behind the DA.

“I then joined the party in 2000 but with the election of Helen Zille as federal chairperson which led to the resignation of Mashaba and later then DA leader Mmusi Maimane and other black leaders, left me questioning why I was still there,” said Mkhonto, a former security guard before joining politics full time.

“The DA that I joined in 2000 no longer represents my views and sentiments on a number of critical policy issues, leaving me with no options but to join the list of other members who have thrown in the towel. I am, therefore, now a card-carrying member of ActionSA,” Mkhonto added.
