Wear your flip-flops in support of CHOC

JOBURG – Participate by buying your sticker for R10 and wear your flip-flops on 12 February.

Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC), based in Rivonia, invites members of the public to join them in creating awareness and raising funds to support children and teens with cancer through Flip Flop Day on 12 February.

Communications coordinator at CHOC Taryn Seegers said, “It is a day to show children, teenagers and their families fighting childhood cancer that they are not walking alone and that we are with them every step of the way.”

Despite lockdown, locals can still partake by wearing flip-flops in their homes or while working or learning remotely.

“Even though we are in lockdown, cancer is not and we are still able to show these heroes our support.”

The association aims to raise R3 million through the event to support over 1 500 children and teenagers in CHOC’s care at any one time.

“As an NPO, it is essential that CHOC receives and sustains the funds to support these courageous children and teens, so they can keep on fighting even when their young bodies are exhausted and hurting.

“Most people know of someone who has fought cancer, they know the effects it has on the families and the journey they have to walk. We need everybody to help CHOC fight this disease and make the journey a little easier for these heroes.”

This is CHOC’s second annual Flip Flop Day, having raised R1.5 million on their first go.

Locals can support the day by visiting a PNA or Tekkie Town store to buy a sticker for R10 or visit www.choc.org.za/product-category/flip-flop-day/ to buy products online in support of the charity or through CHOC House in Saxonwold.
