ALEXANDRA - KwaBhekilanga High School has dethroned Realogile as the top performing school in Alexandra.

Kwabhekilanga High School has come out as number one in Alexandra.

The school, which has achieved a 97.6% matric pass rate, has moved from third place in 2012 to first place in 2013.

“In 2012 we had a 65% pass mark and we are happy with the improvement,” said a delighted Jubera Selowa, principal of the high school.

He praised the pupils for working hard and being committed to their school work. “The children did it, not us. They had many nights studying and showed dedication. They had afternoon sessions and they would even come to school on Sundays to study.”

He said their target for the class of 2013 was around 80% and the result they received exceeded their expectation. “I am very excited about the results. This group is a motivation to this year’s matrics and they have showed them how it is done. We have worked very hard,” Selowa added.

Realogile High School was the lowest performing school in Alex. The school, which was the top performing school in 2012, dropped from 73% to 71%. The school’s deputy principal, Dingaan Kubheka said, “We were consistent in the 70% range and there were about 180 pupils. I feel that we’ve worked hard and we want to improve this year.”
