Avon pledges to commit a portion of its revenue to fight GBVF

JOBURG – Avon has pledged to commit a percentage of its revenue from the sale of products to help to fight gender-based violence.

Avon has pledged to commit a percentage of its revenue from the sale of products to help to fight the scourge of gender-based violence that is spreading like wildfire in the country.

This was announced by Avon Justine managing director for Turkey, the Middle East and Africa, Mafahle Mareletse during a virtual press conference. He said this was in line with another pledge of US$ 1million (about R15 million) made earlier under lockdown to support frontline services in the fight to combat the Covid-19 global pandemic.

“As South Africa joins the global community in commemorating 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, we at the global beauty and cosmetics brand Avon Justine will amplify our ongoing fight against gender-based violence.

“We have pledged to commit part of the revenue generated from the sale of products to non-governmental organisations that are at the forefront of combating the scourge of domestic violence and abuse of children,” Mareletse added.

He said the initiative gave credence to the commitment made when the company launched its new global campaign known as Watch Me Now, which reaffirmed its commitment to make the world a better and safer place for women.

In addition, Avon Justine also launched a support service, Gender-based Violence Protocol and Leave, a blueprint that outlines a range of support services to its own employees experiencing gender-based violence.

The company will work with its long-standing NGO partners in the gender-based violence fight such as Lawyers Against Abuse, People Opposing Women Abuse, Tears Foundation, Yokhuselo Haven, 1000 Women Trust, Ilitha Labantu and the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children.
