Sick woman says she still needs help

ALEXANDRA - Busisiwe Zulu has refuted claims that she cannot go to Cape Town for an operation that could help her to walk again.

Alexandra resident Busisiwe Zulu has refuted claims that she can’t go to Cape Town for an operation that could help her to walk again.

It was previously reported that Zulu (54), who has elephantiasis and has been bedridden for 20 years, could not make the journey unless her seven grandchildren were taken care of.

“I have been in this position for years and several people have offered to help,” she said. “I mentioned my grandchildren because I am genuinely concerned about them but that doesn’t mean I cannot go to Cape Town because of them. I really need help and would never refuse to be helped.”

The procedure which would be paid for by an overseas company would require Zulu to be in Cape Town for four months.

Zulu said when she has to leave for Cape Town her grandchildren would be taken to her sister. She said she had been the laughing-stock of her community for years because of her condition and her grandchildren have been made fun of because of her.

“People say hurtful things about me and my family. Leaving this place for four months is not a problem if it means that I will receive the help that I need. It is not a big deal and I can’t complain about it,” Zulu said.
