Police urge residents not to relax home security after Alex house robbery

ALEX – This, despite the increased joint patrols by the police and soldiers during the lockdown.

Alexandra Police Station is investigating the robbery of R4 100 in cash from a female victim’s 11th Avenue home which occurred early in the morning of 28 April.

The station spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said the victim, who was alone at the time, ensured that the house was locked when she went to sleep the previous night.

“She was woken up by noise in her bedroom at about 2.30am and noticed a suspect searching next to her. “Afterwards, the suspect moved to the kitchen and she followed and saw him proceed to the son’s bedroom. When she heard a presumed accidental gun shot from the suspect’s gun, she retreated and she saw him run out of the house clutching a black bag,” Mbatha said.

The victim switched on the lights, checked the bedroom and realised that the bag taken by the suspect was hers and had the money and some bank cards. No one was injured.

Mbatha urged residents not to relax their security while at home, despite the increased joint patrols by the police and soldiers during the lockdown.
