Robber who stabbed 22-year-old student granted mediation

ALEXANDRA – Victim stabbed for a certificate and phone


An Alex man charged with robbery and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm had his case referred for mediation.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court found Akhani Shokoloza Khosa guilty of stabbing a 22-year-old student who had gone to a friend’s home to collect a bag and a certificate. Also, he is accused of robbing the victim of his R3 000 cell phone.

The incident occurred at about 7pm on 7 February at the friend of the victim’s home at the intersection of 8th and Rooth avenues. The victim went to visit his friend who was absent and was directed to a tavern where he found him drinking with other friends. They later went to the friend’s home.

On arrival, Khosa who was on the premises refused to let the victim collect his bag. The accused produced a knife forcing the victim to retreat and in the process, the victim fell. Khosa stabbed him in one of his fingers and took his cell phone. The victim attempted to take refuge at the friend’s neighbour but he refused him entry into the room saying that he didn’t want the accused inside.

The victim scaled over a wall and escaped from the scene. He reported the incident at the Alexandra Police Station leading to the accused’s arrest.
