‘A cold pint goes down better in South Africa in February’ #SANBeerDay

JOBURG – Quench your thirst this National Beer day on 1 February.

For those who had a dry January – no alcohol for the month – and would like to raise a glass and celebrate, then this year’s fourth South African National Beer Day (#SANBeerDay) is a great way to have a toast on 1 February.

The Beer Association of South Africa (Basa) has backed the campaign that elevates beer, promotes pairing and craft breweries.  The day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in February.

Lucy Corne, the founder of #SANBeerDay and beer writer said she started the event in 2017 because she realised a cold glass of beer is better in the country in February rather than in the chilly months of winter when International Beer Day is celebrated.

Corne says, “South African National Beer Day is a collection of small-scale events, promotions, pairings, specials and mini-festivals – anyone can host an event, whether it’s a full-on party in a brewery or a beer braai pairing at home with friends.”

The brewing community has responded well to the day with numerous events taking place across the country.

Corne concluded she hopes Beer Day encourages more people to gather with friends, family and to simply enjoy a beer or two, perhaps even trying a style of beer which they are not familiar with.
