A chance to sing to the top

JOBURG - One of South Africa’s most unique schools, the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School, will hold an open day in Johannesburg on October 19 to scout for potential pupils between grade 4 and 9 who have exceptional singing talent.

The school’s music, teaching and boarding staff will be available to answer parents’ questions and to meet boys who are interested in joining this internationally respected choir.

A potential pupil does not need to have any formal training, but should have an ear for music and enjoy singing. The foundation of the school’s education is music and boys are taught theory, aural skills, singing and academic subjects. Sport and outdoor activities are also a key part of their development.

The discipline of choral training under the baton of Dr Johann van der Sandt, ensures that the young men who emerge from the school at the end of Grade 9 are sought after by all top independent schools in South Africa, with several offering bursaries.

The beauty of the area where the school is located in the Champagne Valley of the central Drakensberg, means these boys are enormously privileged and experience a quality of life at school that is unrivalled.

The choir is sought after internationally and travel extensively every year to perform. Most recently the choir visited Holland and Germany where the boys also

had the opportunity to visit historic sites and stay with local families.

In southern Africa the choir performs regularly in most major centres as well as in an array of small towns.

The open day will take place at the World of Yamaha , 19 Eastern Service Road, Sandton on 19 October from 9am to 1pm.
