10 nabbed, truck with copper cables confiscated

ALEXANDRA – Flying Squad nabs copper thieves in the act

Ten men who allegedly tried to bribe police officers when they were caught while cutting copper cables await their day in court.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatji said the suspects who allegedly offered an R18 000 bribe were nabbed by members of the Flying Squad in the early morning of 6 January in the Wynberg area. “A tip-off led the officers to the scene where they found the suspects with a truckload of cut cables,” he said. Malatji added that the suspects’ offer of bribery indicated that the illegal business was lucrative and thanked those who notified the police of the incident.
