Hospice looks forward to start of R45-million new facility

ALEXANDRA – Patience pays at last for new state of the art Hospice.

The Alexandra Hospice and Rehabilitation Centre is looking forward to early 2021 when they will relocate to their new state-of-the-art premises in Tsutsumani.

The centre currently operates from costly to maintain old school buildings with limited capacity and, are unsuitable for providing appropriate care and can not attract all required support and professional staff.

“We [look forward] to relocate to new, expanded facilities as we have a long waiting list of those in need of holistic palliative care which can only be provided by a range of professionals required in this work,” manager of the centre Grace Marutlulle said.

The year-long construction of the R45-million facility by the Joburg Development Agency is anticipated to start in February 2020. “We will be happy to accommodate more than the 30 we are currently able to take in.”

Residents of host Ward 105 were encouraged to reply to adverts seeking manual labour, a community liaison officer and SMMEs for the construction.
