Senior Alpoa members want to pass the baton to the younger generation

ALEXANDRA– Alpoa secretary-general Jacky Segopa said the winds of change were blowing towards the right direction in the city of Johannesburg.

Alexandra Land and Property Owners Association (Alpoa) has urged the younger generation whose parents and grandparents have properties in Alex to attend the association’s monthly meetings.

During a recent meeting held at the Roman Catholic Church hall the secretary-general of the organisation Jacky Segopa said the elder members and leadership of the association wanted to pass the baton to the younger generation.

“We call upon all young people whose parents have properties in Alexandra to come on board so that they will take the fight for justice further. The majority of us in the organisation are old and we need young people to who we can pass the baton to and continue fighting for justice. We’ve also asked our members to start preaching the gospel and invite their grandchildren to start attending our meetings,” he said.

Segopa added that that the winds of change in government were blowing and the battle that the association had been fighting for many years seemed to be on the verge of victory.

“The resignation of mayor Herman Mashaba serves as a victory for Alpoa. We’ve tried to engage with his administration for the past three years but his administration showed no interest in the matter of title deeds in Alexandra. In the recent meeting we had with the provincial government, the speaker in the City of Johannesburg, Vasco Da Gama attended the meeting for the first since they took office in 2016. We saw that as a sign towards the right direction from the City.”

Segopa added that their meeting with Premier David Makhura late last year resuscitated the long-overdue process and they were optimistic as an organisation that the issue of title deeds in Alexandra will finally be resolved.
