Two people burnt to death by mob in Alexandra after they attempted to rob a community member

ALEXANDRA– It is alleged that the pair was part of the group that has been terrorising community members.

Alexandra police have opened a docket for a double murder after two men were torched to death on 5 October.

It is alleged that the pair was torched by an angry mob after they allegedly tried to rob a community member on the corner of Roosevelt Street and Second Avenue in Alexandra.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatjie said when the police arrived at the scene they found two bodies smouldering on the street.

“Apparently the community members got frustrated and angry after a group of thugs subjected them to their acts of crime while using Madala Hostel as their hideout.

“It is alleged that the two deceased were caught by the community after they attempted to rob a person at around 8pm on Roosevelt Street.

“When the police arrived at the scene the two lifeless bodies were smouldering in flames.”

Malatjie said the police are investigating the matter while trying to establish the age and identities of the deceased.

He urged community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and call the police if perpetrators of the crime were caught in the act.
