Murderer’s 10-year run ends

ALEXANDRA – Garden folk tractor wheels at the centre of a gruesome murder.

A man who was rearrested recently after 10 years of evading justice wants to plead guilty for murder in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Phikani Mathebula is charged with the murder of his then supervisor at a chicken farm in Blue Hills in 2009.

He disappeared until July this year when he was arrested at his rural home in Bushbuckridge, Limpopo province.

In mitigation, he attributed the incident to anger caused by the deceased who he alleged was attempting to get him fired from work.

On the day of the incident, a co-worker and witness who were in a building with others claimed to have heard a noise outside.

They went out to check and found the accused standing over the deceased who was in a pool of blood with injuries to his head and upper body, and a spade next to him.

The group ran away but returned later to find the accused still next to the deceased and there was a stationary tractor nearby.

The cause of death was found to have been blunt force injury to the head and chest.

The investigation indicated that the accused could have been hit on the head with the spade while driving the tractor, fell off and was run over by the wheels. This compounded his injuries.

The case was postponed and the accused was advised to seek legal representation.
